Laser Dentistry

An alternative method of dentistry using focused light instead of traditional methods

What is laser dentistry?

Lasers can be used to treat tooth sensitivity, tooth decay, gum disease, and can even aid the teeth whitening process. Medical professionals, including dentists, often prefer the use of lasers because of their ability to focus on an exact point, causing less damage to surrounding tissue than other treatments. Some benefits of using lasers in dentistry are that they can make procedures more comfortable for patients (reducing the need for anesthesia), reduce the risk of infection, require less time for the healing process, and can reduce bleeding and the need for sutures.

What are some limitations of laser dentistry?

Laser treatment is not effective in cases that fall into one of these categories:

  • Too much damage from decay

  • Cavities between teeth
