Kids can leave adults full of surprises daily. Sometimes, it’s hard for parents to remember what it’s like to not understand or know what needs to be done around them. That is why, here at Pitner Family Dentistry in Bessemer, Alabama, we strive to remind parents to teach their children to brush their teeth, so they can keep their oral health in tip-top shape throughout their life.

It is extremely important to begin teaching your children about their oral care at a young age. This is because if they learn positive, healthy habits at a young age, this will help them with positive oral health throughout their entire life.  Dr. Rebecca Pitner and Dr. William Findlay care about your child’s oral health, which is why they are happy to provide you these tips to begin your child’s oral health education.

Because young children do not know how to brush their teeth properly, always provide them assistance. Remember to choose a small, soft-bristled toothbrush and angle it towards the gums and teeth. Teach your child to guide it very gently and slowly back and forth along the teeth and gums. Also, don’t forget to brush the little tongue, so you can remove any other bacteria on the surface.

Regular dental visits should always start as early as six months after the first tooth appears, or after the child’s first birthday. The sooner they are familiar with their dentist and oral health habits, the healthier their oral health can be long-term throughout their lifetime. If you feel it’s close to time to bring your child in, please call us today at 205-426-2644 to set up an appointment. Our friendly staff is excited to help your child’s beautiful smile.
